Workshop Equipment

All machinery in the workshop is colour coded to indicate the level of its risk. Make sure you have completed the online Workshop Health & Safety induction before using any of the tools/machines listed below.

There are 5 workshop risk categories: W1 – W5

W1 – covers general health & Safety and best practice in the space


GREEN – W2

Low risk: These can be used anytime the workshop is open. 1st use following an induction must be under direct supervision from a staff member or staff assistant

Low Risk Hot Tools – Heat Gun & Glue Gun

ORANGE – W3

Medium risk – Can only be used when a full time staff member is present in the space. 1st use following an induction must be under direct supervision from a staff member or staff assistant

Medium Risk Power Tools – Metal Bandsaw, Jigsaw, Router, Nail Gun

RED – W4

High risk –Induction only for staff members, workshop staff assistants and final year students who the workshop manager deems experienced and capable enough to use the Table Saw. Can only be used when a full time staff member is present

BLUE – W5

Bookable paid for machines. All student receive a face to face induction on the Laser Cutters. Inductions for all other machines are at the discretion of workshop staff members. 1st use following an induction must be under direct supervision from a staff member or staff assistant .
