The Faculty has several web servers available for student use. These servers are mainly for students studying studying in the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. Note that these servers can only be accessed on campus or from the Virtual Desktop.
An Apache web server ‘stuweb.cms.gre.ac.uk‘ is available on the Unix platform while a Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) server ‘stuiis.cms.gre.ac.uk‘ is also available. For some courseworks, your lecturer may specify which server you need to use, but in general:
- You will need to use the IIS server if you wish to run classic ASP pages or ASP.NET.
- Either the IIS server or the Unix Apache server can be used if you wish to run PHP, or just want to use create standard HTML pages.
