Who is the course for?

The course is suitable for junior postgraduate students who are working towards a PhD, postdoctoral researchers and industrial researchers who need to solve nonlinear problems.

Topics Covered
This intensive three day course covers two key parts:

Part One – Fundamentals of Newton’s Method and its Variants

This will focus on Taylor series expansion, Newton’s method, inexact Newton methods and quasi-Newton methods. Concept of nonlinear preconditioners.

Part Two – Practical Methods for Nonlinear PDEs

This section will cover practical examples from engineering, physics and computational finance.

Key Benefits

  • Participants will be equipped with the knowledge of the methodology required to underpin nonlinear problems.
  • State-of-the-art techniques will be demonstrated.
  • Classes are small, allowing plenty of scope for questions and discussion.
