Integrating iPads in Mathematics

ipadMaths students use a variety of easily available apps in their lectures and tutorials. The aim of this project, supported by the Greenwich Connect seed fund, was to introduce the students to more applications to help their understanding of the overall area (in mathematics, this may relate to, for example, history or modern day applications of cryptography). By recognising the wide implications of mathematics, students were more motivated to their subject and performed better.

An example of an activity for which iPads are used is Maths behind barcodes activity, which is based on barcode scanning. The students are asked to work out the algorithm, draw their own code and scan it with an iPad. Results of this study can be found here.
