PeerGuide podcasts

This Greenwich Connect seed fund project engaged Level 5 History students to create PeerGuide podcasts introducing and explaining the core assessment tasks undertaken by Level 4 students as their core course – “A Tale of Two Cities”. According to previous research poor performance by pod4learners often reflects miscognition regarding the aims and objectives of assessment tasks. The project addresses this problem by finding new ways to equip students with threshold competencies necessary to achieve those tasks. The podcasts are produced by Level 5 volunteers and provide accessible, collaborative resources created by students for students, addressing mismatches between staff expectations and student experiences of assessment and feedback.

Next steps:

The project is in its trial stage with the first podcast ready. The aim is  now to improve the quality of the content and also focus on more challenging tasks.

While the project seeks, in the first instance, to address specific skills deficit amongst Level 4 History students, the case study will also suggest more generic possibilities for developing enhanced assessment and feedback practices via peer review and student-led change.
