visit Greenwich 29/05/24 – 30/05/24
Following the invitation by Dr. Emma Margetson and the Sound & Image team to perform for their Loudspeaker Orchestra Series on the 29th May 2024 at Greenwich Market. We took this opportunity to work on updating our audio-visual performance of quadraphonic audio, laser, strobe and 70” red latex balloon. With the market being quite different to the venues we tend to play in, it presented an exciting opportunity to bring our full-on liveshow into a public space.
Whilst in Greenwich, we sheepishly asked to spend some time with the university’s Colossus synthesizer; an ARP 2500 – inspired instrument (Which Brona Martin very kindly arranged for us to spend a full day in the studio with). The first two hours were predominantly spent trying to understand the synthesizer’s architecture and quirks – no time for manuals! Once coming to terms with it a bit more we delved into our favourite world of teetering feedback systems. The two matrix panels on the synth enabled for quick routing access to devise more complex patches and mults for signal duplication, plus additional jack sockets for extra routing. As per WEȽ∝KER tradition we recorded the full 8-hour session and will be digging for gold in the coming weeks for a hopeful start to a new piece. The Buchla Music Easel also caught our eye in the studio, unfortunately however it will have to wait for our next visit as the Colossus demanded full attention.
Huge thanks to the Sound & Image team, Greenwich University technicians and postgrads for the warm welcome. Until next time!
