AR Geolocative Sound Commissions

2 x Augmented Reality Geolocative Sound Commissions

To celebrate the launch of our new SOUND/IMAGE Research Centre sound app (more information to be launched soon!), we invite sound artists and composers to submit proposals to develop an immersive Augmented Reality audio experience in response to the Greenwich Park in Greenwich, London.

These commissions will be premiered at our “Loudspeaker Orchestra Concert: Echoes in the Park” on Saturday 27 July 2024, in Greenwich Park.

What does geolocative mean?

Geolocated media is tagged to a specific GPS coordinate and triggered to play back when the audience enters the specific region or area. It can be used to create augmented reality experiences where sounds can be layered on to physical locations to create new and enhanced experiences.

What are we looking for?

A site-responsive/site-specific sound walk or composition which responds to the unique geography, history, topography of the Greenwich Park, and the communities who live around and populate the park itself.

We welcome applications from sound artists who are based in London, and more widely across the UK. Applicants should have:

  • Experience in creating electronic and sound-based works; which may include acousmatic composition, ambient, drone, electronica, electroacoustic music, experimental electronica, glitch, musique concréte, noise, sound design, soundscape.
  • An interest in experimenting with forms of art expression available via Augmented Reality and geo-locative apps, and online platforms.

Commission fee: £300

Only applications submitted to the application form before the deadline will be considered. Artists will also be required to provide a short interview about their compositional process to be featured on our blog, and must be present at the launch.

Please note, University of Greenwich students and staff are not eligible to apply.
