Padlet is a free content interactive tool. It enables postings in the form of “stickies” ( e.g. images, links, videos, and more) to be made on a wall and allows brainstorming, concept formation and comparisons to be done. It can be used to encourage real-time, wholeclass participation and assessment.
Suggested pedagogical designs
(1) Think-Share-Pair
step 1- Teacher posts a question on a Padlet wall
step 2- Students individually add answers to the wall at the same time their classmates were contributing responses
Step 3- Teacher put students into small groups and ask groups to analyse the responses from everyone in the class.
Step 4- Teacher synthesises the subject-specific outcomes of the whole class and feedback to the peer assessment skills students have practiced.
(2) Snapshots of the moments to demonstrate a sense of development
Step 1- Teacher posts a task on a Padlet wall, e.g. finding an article on a topic
Step 2- Students perform the task and put their results on the Padlet wall.
Step 3- Teacher exports the wall and keep it as a record/reference for future teaching activities
Pedagogical considerations
(1) Padlet is a content interactive tool. It is vital for the teacher to design theappropriate question/task to encourage students to generate contents.
(2) To foster collaboration and analytical thinking, it is vital for the teacher toelaborate relationships between students’ individual answers and offer an synthesis to close up the activity.
(3) Padlet can work on multiple devices, so it is important that the teacher embrace the culture of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device).
