Erica Sheward: Delivering effective student feedback using Adobe Connect

Erica Sheward at the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) has been using Adobe Connect in order to improve the quality of feedback given to students. Previous student questionnaires revealed that the students were generally unhappy with how feedback was given within the team. The objective of the project was to understand how audiovisual feedback could be used to support and enhance the existing face-to-face and written feedback activities.

Greenwich Connect conducted an interview with Erica to discuss the project and share her experiences with the wider educational community. At the time when the interview was recorded, the impact of this initiative on students’ satisfaction was unknown. Since then a student satisfaction survey has been completed and the result is that students on the programme now rate satisfaction with feedback at 94%!

Conclusion

Erica Sheward’s use of audiovisual feedback in teaching and learning has been an unqualified success. As a result, the National Resources Institute has purchased more Adobe Connect licences to give other lecturers the opportunity to emulate Erica’s approach.

Erica Sheward believes that the strategic use of Adobe Connect and similar technology can transform the way that teachers are able to support students, in and out of the classroom. Erica is currently exploring these opportunities and we at Greenwich Connect are eager to learn what she has in store. No doubt it will be creative, innovative and highly effective. We will keep you informed.
