Resources for running a virtual session

It is important to think through how you are going to run your virtual session? What kind of methodology are you going to use? How are you going to manage the interactions between students?  What aspects of the technology are you going to use?  Do you have a plan B if it all goes wrong?

Simply using this platform as a ‘virtual lecture’ does not draw on the full capacity of the technology to enhance collaboration, sharing and interaction.  If you want use a flipped lecture model, consider recording the lecture and uploading to youtube or vimeo.  Adobe Connect has some simple to use but very powerful features that can encourage group-work, collaborative problem solving and form sof interactive and engaging teaching and learning.  These next resources are designed to talk you through some hints and tip son how to make an engaging virtual session.

Examples and practice options

Being able to practice and use the platform is critical to being ready to run your first session.  Adobe offer a large number of sessions on Connect around how run a successful webinar, how to encourage student interaction and how to use a number of the modules with the platform, which includes the ability to record and upload your session to Moodle.

This is an example of a Adobe Connect session run by Paul Stoneman of the Business School, it gives you an idea of how the platform looks, some of the ways in which it can be used and some of the issues that arise during a Connect session (watch the chat window in the bottom right to see some of the technical issues learners might face).
