Designed by Inigo Jones the Queen’s House in Greenwich began construction in 1617 as a residence for the wife of James I, Queen Anne, who died before it was completed. The building was finished around 1635 and given by James’s son, Charles I, to his wife Henrietta Maria. Additional wings and extensions were added in the late 18th and early 19th century.
