Are you an artist, creative practitioner, researcher, collective or cultural organisation based in a country eligible for the British Council’s Connections Through Culture programme?
The SOUND/IMAGE Research Centre and SHIFT Labs at the University of Greenwich are seeking international partners interested in co-developing projects around sound, image, performance, immersive technologies, digital heritage and creative practice research.
Selected applicants will receive mentoring and partnership support to strengthen a future CTC application and explore residency opportunities within our facilities.

We are particularly interested in hearing from international applicants who would like to work with our research community and make use of the facilities available through SHIFT (Shared Hub for Immersive Future Technologies), including our immersive audio, performance and production environments. These facilities have been established to support innovative creative practice research and the exploration of emerging immersive technologies.
Countries eligible under the scheme include: Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Colombia, Mainland China, Egypt, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Peru, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Türkiye, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia).
What We Are Offering
Following this open call, we will identify a cohort of promising residency candidates and provide developmental support to strengthen future funding applications and residency proposals. Successful EOI applicants will receive guidance from our academic and technical teams to help shape ambitious, achievable and impactful projects. This support may include:
- Mentoring and feedback on project concepts
- Advice on residency design and delivery
- Guidance on external funding applications
- Opportunities to explore how projects align with SOUND/IMAGE and SHIFT research themes
- Access to a network of artists, researchers and creative practitioners working across sound, image, performance, digital heritage and immersive media.

- Sound art and music
- Spatial and immersive audio

Applicants should have a strong creative vision and a clear interest in how residency activity could benefit from engagement with the expertise, facilities and collaborative culture of SOUND/IMAGE and SHIFT.
