Community Care Inform



Community Care Inform is an online reference tool for those working with children, young people and families. It contains guides to key policies, legislation and case law as well as social care practice guides. A username and password is required – please ask at the Library enquiry desk or contact OSCARS for off-campus support.



To access the resource, log into the portal:

Click on the My learning / Learning support page

In the Search the Library portlet select the Online databases and academic journals link

On the next page the resources are listed alphabetically.

Click on the letter of the alphabet for the resource or scroll down in the list and click on Community Care Inform

New Resource – British Periodicals Online


British Periodicals Online is a collection of journals published in Britain between the 1680s and 1930s. Thematically wide ranging: from literature, drama and architecture to philosophy, history and the social sciences. 

To access the resource:

Login to the portal with your computer ID and password

Select the My Learning / Learning support page.

In the Search the Library portlet, select the Online databases and academic journals link.

Scroll down to the resource in the list on the next page.

Select the name of the resource to be transferred to the search screen.

Landmap

The Landmap Service is the UK national archive of satellite mapping data. It provides online access to a range of spatial data for research, learning and teaching. The service also supports the spatial science community with a range of Learning Materials and a dedicated Helpdesk.


To access the resource go to the My learning / Learning support page in the portal. In the Search the Library portlet select the Online databases and academic journals link. On the next page choose Landmap from the alphabetical list to enter the resource.


Note: Landmap requires individual registration to use the download facility and advanced image processing course. Registration is normally once an academic year.

Archival Sound Recordings Service

We now have access to a new resource – the British Library’s Archival Sound Recordings website which provides UK Higher and Further Education staff and students free access to over 12,000 recordings (3,900 hours). 

To access the resource go to the My learning / Learning support page in the portal. In the Search the Library portlet select the Online databases and academic journals link. On the next page scroll down and click on Archival Sound Recordings in the list to enter the resource. 

Collections include:

  • 400 popular music tracks (mostly British bands from the 1930s to 1990s)
  • African Writers’ Club (250 hours on art, literature, music and politics)
  • Art and design interviews (e.g. Denys Lasdun, Eduardo Paolozzi, Paula Rego)
  • Beethoven String Quartets (750 recordings from the last 100 years
  • David Rycroft Africa recordings (music and poetry, mainly from Southern Africa)
  • Klaus Wachsmann Uganda recordings (1,500 recordings from 26 culture groups)
  • Oral history of jazz in Britain (with musicians, promoters and label-owners)
  • Records and record players (developments in recording technology)
  • Sony Radio Awards – drama (every short-listed play 1986-1997)
  • Soundscapes (evocative environmental sounds from Great Britain and Canada)
  • St Mary-le-Bow public debates (e.g. John Betjeman, Jonathan Miller, Diana Rigg)
