3D Studio Render and Model Print by Luke Middleton

Luke Middleton from Degree Atelier 4 created this model in 3D Studio Max and Sketchup and printed it out on the 3d printer.  The pictures on the left are 3D Studio renders; on the right are photos of the actual printed model.

The building is a collection of thin slabs and panels growing out from two central cores.

The model is printed at 150mm high making the panels about 1mm thick. This is really about as close to the limit of what is sensible to print – it is very fragile and some panels and handrails have already fallen off.  While it is possible to spray epsom salt solution onto a 3d model in order to strengthen it as it dries, the parts are probably too small to do that here – before the salt solution dries the on the structure its temporary wetness makes it weaker and so more likely to collapse under its own weight.
