Providing continuing professional development for hospital leaders in China

A delegation of hospital leaders from China recently attended a continuing professional development (CPD) course run by Josephine Dhaliwal in the Public Health portfolio.

The CPD course was commissioned by the Shenzhen Health Commission and covered global healthcare frameworks and AI in healthcare for present and future leaders of Shenzhen Public Hospitals. The aim of the course was to provide attendees with strategic insights in healthcare using examples from UK and international environments, and prioritised real-world case studies that focussed on health innovation and its application to existing challenges within Chinese hospital settings.

The course included sessions on global health system models, the integration of technology and artificial intelligence in healthcare, and practical applications of AI for operational efficiency, including electronic medical records (EMRs), precision medicine, and virtual wards. It also explored AI-driven tools for community health development.

In addition, hospital management methodologies aimed at improving efficiency were discussed, including lean management approaches and staff training through simulation-based learning such as virtual reality and remote CPD. The session concluded with an overview of global quality assurance and accreditation frameworks.

Josephine is a Teaching Fellow in Public Health and teaches on the BSc Public Health degree programme at Greenwich. She has a specialism in dentistry and oral health, with a background in clinical practice, meaning attendees at knowledge exchange events gained insights from her academic and practical experience within public health.
