{"id":880,"date":"2023-07-18T10:08:05","date_gmt":"2023-07-18T09:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/sound-image\/?p=880"},"modified":"2024-07-19T16:40:33","modified_gmt":"2024-07-19T15:40:33","slug":"sound-image-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/sound-image\/2023\/07\/18\/sound-image-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"SOUND\/IMAGE 2023 Call for Works"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cCreativity Shared\u201d&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A festival curated by the SOUND\/IMAGE Research Centre.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/sound-image\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2023\/05\/Pauline-Patie-20221120-06937-1024x688.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-594\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>9-12 November 2023<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>University of Greenwich, London, UK<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This festival brings together artists and experts exploring the relationship between sounds and images, and the images which sounds can construct by themselves.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To celebrate the publication of a new book on sonic creativity \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.routledge.com\/Art-of-Sound-Creativity-in-Film-Sound-and-Electroacoustic-Music\/Knight-Hill-Margetson\/p\/book\/9780367755881\">Art of Sound: Creativity in Film Sound and Electroacoustic Music<\/a>\u201d and the launch of our new creative practice research facilities the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gre.ac.uk\/articles\/public-relations\/university-of-greenwich-project-awarded-1-million-funding-to-develop-and-upgrade-creative-facilities\">Shared Hub for Immersive Future Technologies<\/a>\u201d this 2023 edition of the festival invites submissions that respond to the theme \u201cCreativity Shared\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We seek projects in Sound and Audiovisual Practice that articulate the value of the creative process and its potential to engage with the world in new ways:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How do we use our art to communicate?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In what ways do we use our media to tell stories and make audiences feel?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What are our ethical responsibilities to our audiences?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How do we best share knowledge of our practices (when it is so often bound up in tacit and embodied practices?)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Engaging in a rich complementary programme of talks, screenings, loudspeaker orchestra concerts and workshops \u2013 we hope to stimulate discussion, debate and to engage diverse perspectives and new insights. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To expand on this theme we are delighted to welcome special guest artists, including for this 2023 edition, New Zealand electroacoustic composer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmu.ac.uk\/about-dmu\/academic-staff\/technology\/john-young\/john-young.aspx\">John Young<\/a>. Look out for future announcements of other special guests in the coming weeks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&nbsp;seek submissions that explore the diverse areas of sound \/ image practice and actively encourage applications from candidates of all ethnicities, backgrounds and genders, who are traditionally underrepresented. In addition, because we&#8217;re keen to welcome innovators and foster the next generation of new practitioners, we will give special consideration to applications from students, apprentices and emerging artists.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This edition of SOUND\/IMAGE will run alongside our sister event <a href=\"https:\/\/zu-uk.com\/creativefutures\/\">DO AS YOU ARE TOLD<\/a>, focusing on the ethics, politics and practices of instruction-based performance&nbsp;hosted by our colleagues in Creative Futures and the Practice Research Screen fixed media works will be presented at formal screenings in our \u2018Cinema\u2019 space with 16:9 HD projection and up to 7.1 surround sound.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Immersive, 180\u00ba or 360\u00ba works will be presented in our new Digital Theatre Space in Bathway with access to the full Loudspeaker Orchestra exhibition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Installations will be presented in the Stephen Lawrence Gallery in the Stockwell Street Building.&nbsp;The exhibition will run from
