Despite growing recognition of the public sector&#8217;s potential to drive just and equitable energy transitions, much research still focuses predominantly on private sector roles, especially overlooking contexts in the Global South.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are offering a fully funded PhD scholarship on &#8220;Decarbonisation Through Public Ownership: Transforming the Energy Sector in the Global South.&#8221; This project addresses critical research gaps by investigating how public ownership can deliver effective, equitable, and sustainable energy decarbonisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Utilising an innovative, interdisciplinary approach, you will engage with comparative case studies, expert interviews, focus groups, and pioneering critical realist econometric modelling. The research will explore:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Institutional, historical, and socio-economic conditions enabling effective public ownership in energy decarbonisation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comparative analysis of decarbonisation potential under public versus private ownership.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development of policy frameworks and tools for just and sustainable energy transitions tailored to the Global South, with insights applicable globally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Details:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Application deadline: midnight UTC on 23rd March 2025<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interviews (online via Microsoft Teams): planned between 31st March and 11th April 2025<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PhD start date: By end of July 2025<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Join this transformative research project to help shape equitable, effective, and sustainable global energy transitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interested?
