It calls on the international community to prioritise public water and public financing to accelerate progress towards realising the\u00a0human rights to water and sanitation\u00a0and achieving\u00a0Sustainable Development Goal 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is backed by the interim findings of a forthcoming\u00a0report commissioned by PSI from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gre.ac.uk\/research\/psiru\">Public Services Research Unit (PSIRU)<\/a>\u00a0to review and analyse the policy recommendations of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/watercommission.org\/\">the Global Commission on the Economics of Water<\/a>\u00a0(GCEW).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lobina stresses that water and sanitation are vital public services. Drawing on PSIRU research, the article highlights the development potential of public ownership and public finance in delivering water and sanitation services with quality, equity, and safety at the centre of international efforts.
