Third year BA (Hons) Social Work student Samantha Ncube is a winner of the annual Social Worker Union assignment competition… for a second time!
This year’s World Social Work Day 2025 essay question was “What are the most important things social workers should get from their professional training? What type of social work practice would they like to be involved in as they begin their professional careers, and why?”. Samantha’s essay focussed on the fundamental importance of integrating theory, research and policy, developing essential skills, and committing to ethical principles, in practical training for social work. These core factors will help meet the demands of the profession and transform communities.
Samantha is a previous winner of the Social Worker Union assignment competition in 2023, with her essay on how social workers can best support diverse UK communities through joint social action, and said this year’s award “reinforces my commitment to making a positive difference through inclusive and community-focused practice”.
The assignment competition is open to all undergraduate or postgraduate social work students currently studying in the UK, with prize money available to the winners. More details of the competition, including Samantha’s award winning essay, can be found on the Social Workers Union webpage.
