Climate change, pollution, waste, single use plastics and air pollution affects us all. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Green Week?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Week <\/strong>offers our students (and staff) the opportunity to organise and join a range of fun and engaging activities; raising awareness and encouraging change towards a more sustainable living. Do not forget that we all have the power <\/strong>to make a positive <\/strong>difference, no matter how small the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It occurs every November. The week is organised by the Sustainability Team, with support from students and a variety of University Departments. Student collaboration is crucial for a successful week. Anyone can join in or recommend activities<\/strong>; if you have an idea, or your society or club would like to be involved in future weeks please do get in touch! <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Week Throughout the Years<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Week 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Held on 10-14 November, there were a range of activities and events taking place throughout the week, both online and on campus. They not only increased students knowledge, but also help with their CV and skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Week Talk: Myths, Truths, and the Future of Food\u00a0<\/strong>: A talk by Mike Hanson, Sustainability Director of WSH, the family of hospitality brands such as\u00a0Benugo,\u00a0Baxterstorey and Notes, shared about sustainable food<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning from Experience: You too can have a Sustainability Career, find out how!<\/strong>: Sharing by UoG alumni about their career paths who are currently working in the sustainability field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Film Night: Eitai \u2013 Community Togetherness<\/strong>: \u00a0a film night of\u00a0Eitai,\u00a0<\/em>a documentary exploring change in rural Uganda. This film is nominated for the UN SDG film festival in London, as well as other international film festivals.\u00a0Sally Bashford-Squires, director of the film, was here for a Q&A session after the show.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Week Talk: Sustainable IT, E-Waste, and Social Value in Action<\/strong>: \u00a0we have invited Stone, a leading provider of ICT Solutions to UK Public Sector and Private Sector organisations, to share what happens to our e-waste after putting into the bin\/recycling, and more about IT asset lifecycle management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the week, our catering outlets at Greenwich and Medway were offering free samples of food, such as zero-waste banana bread, coffee ground brownies and soups. They also provided discounts for water bottles and UoG-branded bottles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November we also launched the Green Hub, a one-stop shop website for staff and students to learn about sustainability, get involved and find facilities on campus that help them live more sustainably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Fortnight 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Held on 4-15 November<\/a>, there were a range of activities taking place throughout the week, both online and on campus, to inspire students and staff in their sustainability ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Autumn Career Fair\u2014Green Corner:<\/strong> Green Week was kickstarted with a Green Corner in the Autumn Career Fair at Dreadnought. Employers such as RSK and Sodexo were invited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clothes Swap:<\/strong> Encouraging students and staff to support circular economy through clothes swap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student Success Panel Talk:<\/strong> a sharing of how academics can integrate sustainability into teaching, learning and student experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edible Garden Volunteering Session:<\/strong> Encouraging students and staff to get in touch with nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Week 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Held on 6-10 November<\/a>, the theme of Green Week 2023 was “Green Employability”<\/strong>, and has coincided with Careers Fairs<\/a> at Greenwich and Medway. Events included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Autumn Career Fair\u2014Green Corner:<\/strong> Green Week was kickstarted with a Green Corner in the Autumn Career Fair at Dreadnought. Employers such as RSK, Graysons and Sodexo were invited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Career Talk:<\/strong> To provide attendees with deeper understanding of different green career options, we have invited different organisations, e.g. RSK, HLM Architects, Wilmott Dixon and more, to share their experience. We have also invited Greenwich alumni who has worked with Sustainable Development Unit and currently working in the sustainability sector to share their experience. Nature Monitoring and Wildlife Walk: <\/strong>To let university members understand more about wildlife on campus, we have conducted hedgehog monitoring and a wildlife walk in Avery Hill Campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Week 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Held between the14-18th of November<\/a>, and with the shift to flexible work and students not on campus the online and in-person activity option was made permanent. Such events included: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
