As an academic institution we have a significant contribution in helping to deliver a sustainable future.
Through learning and development we provide to the research our students and academics undertake we can help deliver the skills and knowledge demanded by employers and the innovations, ideas and perspectives needed to build a sustainable society.
We are applying education for sustainable development (ESD) approaches within all Faculties. It is undertaking research to identify the most appropriate ways to enable academic staff to understand and apply sustainability appropriate to their teaching styles and the systems that exist.
As sustainability can sometimes appear complex and challenging to apply the Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) is available to provide learning, mentoring and development support to staff. This helps them understand sustainability using science based definitions that enable effective systemic application. The SDU is also available to assist academics when seeking to understand how sustainability relates to proposed research and commercial proposals.
