{"id":3558,"date":"2022-02-01T09:30:32","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T09:30:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/diversity\/?p=3558"},"modified":"2022-02-01T09:30:32","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T09:30:32","slug":"inspirational-diversity-champion-of-the-month-february-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/diversity\/2022\/02\/01\/inspirational-diversity-champion-of-the-month-february-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Inspirational Diversity Champion of the Month &#8211; February 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/diversity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/02\/Clarke-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3560\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Time to Talk Day 2022 is on 3 February, with this in mind we have chosen Clarke Carlisle as our Inspirational Diversity Champion of the Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clarke Carlisle is a former premier league footballer, Sky Sports pundit and PFA (Professional Footballers Association) Chairman.&nbsp; He is also an ambassador for the Mental Health Charity Mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clarke was diagnosed with depression when he was playing professional football and, by becoming a Mind ambassador, helps to spread the message that there needs to be the understanding, freedom and awareness to address mental health in the same way as physical health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clarke has been pivotal in helping to launch Mind&#8217;s sport report &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mind.org.uk\/media-a\/4354\/mental-health-and-elite-sport.pdf?ctaId=\/about-us\/our-policy-work\/sport-physical-activity-and-mental-health\/professionals-in-sport\/slices\/prof-sport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Performance Matters: Mental Health in Elite Sport<\/a>&#8216; which details how sports associations can better support the mental health of professional sportspeople.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clarke, and his wife Carrie, won the Speaking Out Award at our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mind.org.uk\/news-campaigns\/mind-media-awards\/\">Mind Media Awards<\/a>&nbsp;in 2018.
