{"id":1654,"date":"2019-09-03T16:44:06","date_gmt":"2019-09-03T15:44:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/?p=1654"},"modified":"2019-09-03T16:44:06","modified_gmt":"2019-09-03T15:44:06","slug":"academic-year-2019-2020-whats-new","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/2019\/09\/03\/academic-year-2019-2020-whats-new\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic Year 2019-2020 : What&#8217;s New"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Here are some of the changes and additions for the design resources in Stockwell Street this new academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Stockwell Street Studios\" width=\"920\" height=\"518\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/XObAd7bJ-fo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>New Studio Layout<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Studios<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Studio layout has changed; the tall walls in the crit pit put up for exhibition will now stay.&nbsp;&nbsp;These walls are now open ended with shelving inside for extra portfolio storage in the studios.&nbsp;&nbsp;More tables and chairs have been purchased too as well as new wheelable roll cages for tidier storage and transport of models \/ media \/ drawings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please make use of the extra storage \u2013 this year we are required to be tidier and less cluttered with work and models, etc.  Please identify models and portfolios as your own &#8211; we may move these to storage shelves if they are cluttering the spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The areas assigned to course groups have changed too; broadly the user \/ studio arrangement is like this<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1001 \/ 1002 : Landscape Architecture<\/li><li>1003 \/ 1004 \/ 1005 \/ 1006 : Graphic Design<\/li><li>Crit Pit \/ 1020: Architecture<\/li><li>1010 \/ 1019 : Shared studios<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Computers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Software Updates :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Autodesk 2020 [about to be installed]<\/li><li>Sketchup 2019<\/li><li>Zbrush 2019<\/li><li>Cinema 4d r20<\/li><li>Blender 2.8<\/li><li>Vray Next<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>New software:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>KeyShot 8 \u2013 standalone renderer for Rhino, Sketchup etc.&nbsp;&nbsp;Easy to use and fast.<\/li><li>Insta360 Studio \u2013 360 camera editing<\/li><li>Cyclone Register 360.  Laser Scanner registration and processing software<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Plotting and Equipment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plotting software has changed, we are now using Uniflow.&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Prices have stayed the same<\/strong>, but now you will plot per area of plot &#8211; meaning you can choose any of the standard ISO sizes or make a custom size plot (for example a long plot).&nbsp;&nbsp;The price is calculated according to the area and you will get a confirmation dialogue with the price for that area before going ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New<\/strong> sheet feed plotter \u2013 we have an additional Canon TX-3000 plotter which has replaced the old sheet feed plotter.&nbsp;&nbsp;Higher quality and faster &#8211; plots are also now charged per area of plot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2019\/09\/tx-2000_as-f-2rolls-frt_800x800.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1663\" width=\"280\" height=\"311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2019\/09\/tx-2000_as-f-2rolls-frt_800x800.jpeg 559w, https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2019\/09\/tx-2000_as-f-2rolls-frt_800x800-270x300.jpeg 270w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New<\/strong> Laser Printers: All of the A3\/A4 laser printers in the University have been replaced.&nbsp;&nbsp;The new models are faster, higher quality and deal with heavy PDF files better.&nbsp;&nbsp;When printing duplex the second (back) page costs less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NEW Ideal 4315 electric guillotine<\/strong>: this is a guillotine that will let you cut up to 40mm thick reams of paper \/ card in one go. Small but important feature of this printer is that it will pause when it runs out of material the resume when it is refilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ultimaker.com\/learn\/the-ultimaker-s5-is-here\">https:\/\/ultimaker.com\/learn\/the-ultimaker-s5-is-here<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2019\/09\/ultimaker.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1665\" width=\"600\" height=\"228\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>NEW laser cutter: Universal\u00a0ILS9.150D can cut sheets up to 914 x 610. It is much more powerful than the old laser cutter it is replacing and much faster.
