The living wall enables testing of a variety of plants for&nbsp;suitability, and their effects on&nbsp;air quality and noise &#8211; as well as people\u2019s attitudes to living walls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;planting design was done by Shelley Mosco (an A&amp;L staff member&nbsp;who has designed numerous living&nbsp;walls across the UK and internationally)&nbsp;and many landscape and architecture students helped with the installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&nbsp;A visit to the&nbsp;wall is included in the monthly tour of the Stockwell Street roofs by Benz Kotzen.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Aquaponics Lab: S11 Building Second&nbsp;Floor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-1425\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2017\/03\/Bitter-gourd.png\" alt=\"Bitter gourd grown in our Aquaponics Lab.\" class=\"wp-image-1425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2017\/03\/Bitter-gourd.png 650w, https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2017\/03\/Bitter-gourd-300x162.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Bitter gourd grown in our Aquaponics Lab.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aquaponics is the symbiotic growing of fish and vegetables in recirculating water systems. It is emerging as one of the most important areas of sustainable agriculture. &nbsp;The Stockwell Street Aquaponics lab exists as a research project to facilitate investigation into areas such as growing Asian and other exotic vegetables in aquaponics in the UK, instead of importing them at high financial and environmental cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2017\/03\/aquaponicslights.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1428\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2017\/03\/aquaponicslights.png 650w, https:\/\/blogs.gre.ac.uk\/designsupport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2017\/03\/aquaponicslights-300x162.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This aquaponics experiment aims to determine whether the lettuce that is being grown vertically is as productive to that growing horizontally.
