With your help we can make Greenwich a zero waste organisation. To help this the University has developed a Waste Strategy, an approach relevant to all stakeholders that generate waste at the University. It sets out recommendations that will help you eliminate and reduce wastes. Please take time to review this. 120216 Waste Management Strategy

In 2012-13 1,005 tonnes of waste was produced at Greenwich. We currently recycle 55% of this and have a target to meet a 70% recycling target for the academic year 2015-16. To do this we need the help of all staff and students to recycle and reuse as much as possible.

By following the simple instructions on our bins you can help us meet our recycling targets though you can help even more by reducing the amount of waste that we generate. By improving purchase decisions (ask yourself do you really need it, and if so how would you deal with it when used ie can you reuse or recycle it?) you can help meet our goals.

Students are asked participate in their hall’s end of year reuse scheme. Last year the Avery Hill initiative helped save 2 tonnes of reusable goods for future students and local community groups including the foodbank.

We’ve listed the common items you can recycle alphabetically in the table below. If your item does not appear on the list check the information below the table for what to do with it. Remember to reuse anything you can before you throw it away.
