The Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) programme is designed for graduates who wish to become professional landscape architects. The programme is accredited by the Landscape Institute, offering a 2-year ‘graduate entry’ conversion route for candidates from diverse backgrounds, professions and educations. Graduates are eligible to become Licentiate members of the landscape Institute and begin the Pathway to Chartership.

Students explore a diverse range of approaches to the design of landscapes, such as green roofs, living walls, courtyards, public spaces, parks, squares, waterfronts, urban masterplans and regional strategies. Students develop skills and knowledge, including: design, history, theory, professional practice, technology, ecology, sustainability, horticulture, drawing and digital representation. Students are encouraged to attend field-study courses abroad (recently to New York, Paris and Istanbul) that inform their design projects. Visits to London’s art galleries, libraries and important landscapes provide inspiring contexts for these studies.

The programme attracts many applicants who are changing career or further focusing their career in the profession of Landscape Architecture. Applicants include graduates from architecture, design, planning, art, geography, sociology, ecology and many other disciplines. Graduates from the programme have joined outstanding landscape practices, led projects such as the London Olympic Park and established World-leading design studios.
